The Mohawk Valley Consulting Associate's Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offers their Client Companies a number of educational and interactive trainings. Client Companies receive EAP Orientation for their employees and a Supervisory Referral Training especially for managers and supervisors. These trainings can be customized especially for the Client Company needs.
EAP Orientation covers all EAP services, what to expect when using EAP for the first time, and how to contact the EAP. Supervisory Referral Training empowers managers and supervisors to make referrals to the EAP when appropriate and necessary and will help up utilization of the EAP for maximum benefit.

More About the Trainings Offered by your EAP
Each training session is 1-½ hours and can be provided at your work site. Training/workshop sessions are tailored to fit your specific workplace issues/needs. Always keep in mind, if you do not see a topic listed here, our professional staff will design one to your specifications.
All Mohawk Valley Consulting Associates EAP Client Companies are entitled to one, Manager/Supervisory Referral Training – Taking a Charge in Creating a Healthy Workplace and one other training session of choice. All training sessions include a brief Employee Assistance Program overview, ensuring all employees know how to use the services available to them. Any additional training requested would be charged a fee, which is negotiated at time of request.

1. Workplace Behavior and Etiquette
Training Objectives:
Participants will learn how to build and maintain a positive, productive work environment.
Participants will learn what their challenges are in maintaining a positive work environment.
Participants will learn the fundamentals of business etiquette and how to present as a polished professional.

2. Manager/Supervisory Referral Training – Taking a Charge in Creating a Healthy Workplace
This training is part of your EAP Contract and suggested that all managers attend. During this training, Supervisors will learn awareness of their responsibility to ensure a productive and safe work environment. Supervisors will also learn or refresh their assertive skills as well as how to use their EAP as a positive management tool.

3. Harassment in the Workplace
Creating a positive work environment, understanding workplace harassment. This training offers two components, one for supervisors and another for employees (next page).
Training Objectives for Supervisors:
Identify & understand what is workplace harassment (including but not limited to: sexual, disrespectful behavior & language)
Identify what a positive work environment looks and feels like.
Identify supervisors as role models
Build skills for supervisors to create & maintain a positive wok environment (prevention & intervention)
4. Drug Free Workplace/Reasonable Suspicion
This training is conducted for supervisors and provides factual and legal information to maintain a healthy and drug free workplace.

5. Conflict Resolution: Building Skills for a Peaceful Workplace
Conflict is prevalent within the workplace. How conflict is managed, determines how quickly it is resolved. During this training, participants will learn how to recognize conflict and most importantly learn skills to manage it effectively on a peer-to-peer basis.

6. Harassment in the Workplace for Employees/Sexual Harassment
Creating a positive work environment, understanding workplace harassment. This training offers two components, one for employees and another for supervisors (previous page).

7. The ABC’s of Relationships: Admire & Love Yourself, Believe and Trust, Communicate Clearly & Completely
All of us are involved in relationships. The nature and scope of these relationships varies greatly.
All have components in common including its impact on us personally on and off the job.
This workshop will examine the general make up of relationships and their common components.
Issues of self esteem, trust, communication, boundaries will be explored. Personal relationship histories and personal skill enhancement exercises will be included.
8. Building a Successful Team
Together Everyone Achieves More!
Your team may just be forming, or you may be renewing your goals for the coming year.
You may have just gotten a new team member or even lost a few.
This training will take you through the various stages of a team’s development and give you Strategies and Tips for guiding your team successfully through the process.
You will learn how to recognize and respond to your team’s needs and help your teammates work together to build a successful and effective team.
9. How to Deal with ‘Difficult’ People
Training Objectives:
Participants will learn the importance of changing their thinking about ‘difficult’ people.
Participants will learn different options for interacting with ‘difficult’ people.
Participants will learn how to disarm another person’s anger.
10. The OREO Syndrome: Raising Kids, Tending Parents
This workshop examines the dynamics of raising your children while caring for aging often disabled parents. Discussion includes stress, both physical and emotional, burnout, setting healthy limits and boundaries, delegating tasks and keeping a reasonable, healthy perspective. Strategies for creating balance, space for downtime, recreational opportunities and approaching support service providers are discussed. Personal planning and strategizing for your situation is encouraged.
11. Assertiveness for Career and Personal Success
From time to time, most of us are uneasy with other people; we feel left out, put down, or cheated.
But too often we can’t speak up for our legitimate needs and rights. Instead, we tell ourselves, “I don’t want to look pushy.” Or “ I’m afraid I won’t be taken seriously.
“This training will help participants to stand up for their rights and negotiate productively with others who put them down. Assertiveness does not mean being pushy or aggressive.
Indeed, assertive people avoid aggression because they resolve conflicts and their problems more easily.
To Be Assertive…is to be able to:
Express yourself clearly, directly and appropriately
Value what you think and feel
Have esteem and respect for yourself
Recognize your own strengths
12. Change Management
The workplace is an ever-changing environment, especially in the economy we currently live. Learning how to manage and accept change will help us to move forward, stay healthy and happy, in work and at home.
During this training participants will learn how to identify barriers to change and what skills are needed to effectively work through it. Skills such as stress management, time management, communication and goal setting will be established and practiced.
13. Building a Safe Workplace: Preventing Workplace Violence
Training Objectives:
Participants will understand the specific role of management and supervisory personnel in maintaining a safe place to work.
Participants will be able to identify action steps relating to a report of actual or potential violence.
Participants will be able to recognize resources available following an incident of workplace violence.
Participants will understand the impact of violence on employees and the workplace.
This training is available for supervisors and staff.
14. Building Self Esteem: Lightening the Load
People who feel good about themselves are usually healthy, productive and stable.
This workshop examines the components of self esteem including historical factors, cultural and family factors, and peer influences. Roadblocks to positive self-esteem are outlined and discussed.
Strategies to build positive self-regard are discussed including specific steps to take to design a personal wellness plan.
15. Stress Management
Personal Strategies for Managing Stress – During this training, participants will learn strategies for successful stress control and healthy living. This session will also cover on time management and goal setting skills.
At the Completion of the Course You Will:

Identify Attitudes, Knowledge and Beliefs necessary to Manage Stress.

16. Workplace Cultural Diversity/Cultural Competency
Training Objectives:
Participants will learn the importance of effectively interacting with people from different backgrounds and cultures.
Participants will learn the four core components of good cultural competence– understanding one’s own cultural worldview, attitude towards cultural differences, knowledge of different worldviews, and cross cultural skills.
17. Reach For The Stars: Goal Setting for Professional and Personal Life
This workshop will help participants learn about how to set realistic goals for themselves both professionally and personally!
Participants will create some same goals as well as their own personal ‘action plans.’
18. Current Drug Trends
This workshop will provide participants with an update on current drug trends.
Participants will be able to name some of the most commonly abused substances, understand what the substances look like, as well as their effect on the human body. Participants will also learn what agencies/programs exist that can help those effected by substance abuse.
This workshop will also have information on prescription drug abuse— a trend that is especially effecting the younger generations.
