Lotus-Butterfly Project
The significance of the lotus flower is that it grows through the mud and darkness into the light floating peacefully on the water. It signifies rebirth, potential for spiritual growth, and enlightenment.Hovering above the flower is a butterfly representing change and transformation. The butterfly starts out in the darkness of a cocoon. It must twist and turn and struggle to get free. But if it were not for that struggle the butterfly would not develop the strength necessary to fly.The struggle itself creates the transformation necessary to achieve freedom.
This process applies not only to addiction recovery but to overcoming any adversity in life. Everyone goes through difficult life-changing experiences for which the lotus/butterfly symbols have relevance. Many people struggle in some area of their life. A painful truth keeps them in the darkness. Losses of all kinds bring emotional pain.At some point, the darkness becomes so unbearable that the willingness to make positive changes begins. Strength and courage are developed when an individual is willing to face adversities in life, and to accept help in overcoming them.

How to Purchase Lotus Products
The Lotus-Butterfly Pins & Pendants, unique gift items designed exclusively for the Mohawk Valley Council on Alcoholism/ Addictions, are available for sale to the public. Designed and individually hand-crafted by Cathy Fauss, they represent the theme of "Triumph Over Adversity". The pins and pendants are made from small glass mosaic tiles, which are etched in silver or gold and painted in a wide variety of colors. A crystal butterfly can be used in place of an etched or a painted butterfly when ordering.
