The Council is currently serving as a co-facilitator of the group along with SUNY IT as the co-facilitator. The Coalition is new in forming and currently has members from Utica College, MVCC and MWPI. As the group forms we will welcome more community services and other area colleges. Mohawk Valley Council Receives funds from the Central New York Community Arts Council, Inc.The Mohawk Valley Council is excited to share the agency’s mission through artwork, thanks to funding received by the Art Creating Community Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts, administered by the Central New York Community Arts Council, Inc.The name of the project is “Putting the Pieces Together to Build a Drug Free Community”. The primary goal of this art project is to bring our youth together and create a sculpture, to form a large puzzle. The pieces reflect feelings against tobacco, alcohol and other drugs and identify positive alternatives in making our Community a drug free community. These sculptures will be displayed together in various locations throughout Oneida County. This is such a great opportunity for our community’s youth to learn how they can use the Arts as a means of expressing themselves creatively and sending a pro-healthy, nonuse message about drugs. For more information and how your business or agency can host a sculpture, please contact the MVCA/A at (315) 733-1709. Council Receives Donation from Wal-Mart The Council would like to thank Wal-Mart Distribution Center for their recent donation of $1,000 to assist our organization with various prevention programs! Thank you for helping us to carry out our mission! Stewart's Shops awards the Council $500 through it's Holiday Match Program in March 2008 The Mohawk Valley Council on Alcoholism/Addictions would like to extend a special thank you to Stewarts Shops in their awarding $500.00 from the holiday match program. The money will be used to continue quality education programs in the community aimed at reducing the disease of alcoholism and other addictions.
