Recent Events

 

The Council's 10th Annual Alcohol Awareness Breakfast took place on Tuesday, April 1st at The Hotel Utica. The event was a great success with so many community members attending! Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente, Jr. was the Master of Ceremonies, and our keynote speaker was Bernie McGrenahan. The Council presented the Amethyst Award to this year's winner, Bonnie Carr of the Insight House! Also, the 2008 Johnnie Weakley Award Winner was presented to Anthony Barkett!

Alcohol Awareness Week at MVCC took place April 21- 25th. The Council sponsored several activities on campus including Mocktails, a tricycle collision course using fatal vision goggles, a crash simulator, and informational displays set up across the campus. This week gave the campus the opportunity to highlight healthy lifestyles free from the abuse or illegal use of alcohol, and to combat negative sterotypes of college drinking behavior. It was a great success!

 

The Council will be sponsored an "Alcohol and Drug Information Night" at Kernan Elementary School in Utica on April 24th from 4:30 - 6 pm. We displayed alcohol and drug information, and answered questions that parents had. The Council gave away free resource materials including pamphlets, brochures, and other goodies! Both kids and parents had a great time!

 

The Council hosted a Town Hall Meeting on Underage Drinking on April 30th, at the Vega Martinez Center located at 1736 Armory Drive in Utica, that began at 5:00 pm. There was a presentation given by Ginny Pry-Prevention Program Manager, and Cassandra Sheets-Executive Director of the Council. Refreshments and materials were given out. Community members received valuable information!
